Have you ever thought about making money from your blog, leveraging what you already know? Using your knowledge and skills to passionately help people solve their problems and make some money in the process – Now who wouldn’t like that? Huh!
Whether it is a passion or profit led business, you can be financially stable if you find the right business model that best suits you. But, there could be hundreds of reasons as to why you haven’t thought about the business side of your blog. Hell, maybe you probably have thought about it but just haven’t taken action.
There could be numerous reasons as to why you haven’t taken action yet:
- You are scared of not being creative enough.
- You simply procrastinate or are afraid of failures.
- Because it drains your resources – time, energy and money.
- You don’t know the benefits of offering services in your blog.
- You haven’t thought about leveraging the things that you already know.
- You don’t know how to use your skills and knowledge for financial gains.
There could be various other reasons. Whatever the reasons are just do it anyway because that is the only way it is going to get done. Besides, you are never going to know till you try it for yourself. You are going to make mistakes and mess it up couple of times, or more, but you will eventually get it right (O:
There is always a way of developing a financially stable business in your blog without draining yourself out but the fact is; it will take motivation, dedication and time. The most important thing to keep in mind is that success doesn’t necessarily come from gaining more knowledge but leveraging what you already know.
Here are 7 other helpful tips to guide you in utilizing your skills, knowledge and experience into a service package. I wanted to provide these tips so that you can not only enjoy doing what you love but also have some financial gain in the process:
1. Kick the fear in the rear! (hey that rhymes!)
First and foremost, you have to kick the fear to the curb. That is the only way you can bring out your creativity and utilize the knowledge within you; in order to create a business model that best suits you. Don’t let the fear stop you from doing what you truly want or else you will have to live with the guilt for the rest of your life. I believe that says enough about why you need to overcome fear.
2. Brainstorm ideas and look what others have done:
Start by brainstorming what you are capable of and if you can include that as a service or not. I bet many of you reading this right now already have a blog. A blog is an awesome platform to launch services relevant to what you blog about.
If you take a look at my service page, you see how relevant my offers are to what I love doing – blogging and creating an online presence! Go ahead gather some ideas and start offering something similar like that! Find your own skills that you can readily sell. There are literally hundreds and thousands of people that do not have a clue on how to do what you have done.
What better reasons to kick start your own business in your blog today?
3. Create options for your clients:
People love options. It gives people a sense of relief once they see choices. If you have only one option, what question do you think arises in your potential client’s head – most probably; do I want this or not? But if you have multiple options, the question suddenly becomes, which one is the best offer that suits my needs?
Do you see the difference?
Give them at least couple of options. Don’t give too many options either or else, this may be overwhelming to potential clients. I ended up offering 4 options – Platinum, Gold, Silver and the Bonus option in the services I offer.
4. Bundle your services:
Bundling services is one very powerful marketing technique. Bundling what is relevant, with a step by step process, helps your potential clients know what to expect from you. When you share the process, the potential client’s confidence in you suddenly increases.
In fact, if you really think about it, it is not the process that your clients are worried about. They only care about the final product. But there is always that trust factor when you relay the process and bundle it right.
5. Set your price right:
Now about pricing, you really want to find the fine line between how much to charge for your skills. You don’t really want to be too expensive where your clients can’t even afford you. Then you would never be able to land a decent number of clients.
Having said that, don’t have it too low either where you are not getting what you truly deserve. You can always increase the prices later on once you start landing some serious clients. And yeah, if you are outsourcing some aspects of your services, make sure to include that in the overall cost of the package.
6. Create various products based on your services:
You are probably not aware of the fact that leveraging what you already know is the quickest way to create more gains and exposure in your blog. You can create an e-course based on the services you offer. Or heck you can even create an eBook based on the services. Aha! Which gives me an idea (O:
You might say why tell your potential customers everything if you are selling your skills. The fact is, very few people would actually do the things all by themselves while a great majority would still want your help in the process. They would love to read how to get it done but still need your help in putting things to action.
7. Take it to the next level: Sky’s the limit!
All your clients do not need the same kind of help. Some may need a little bit of consulting or some may need serious help from scratch. One way to tackle this problem is by creating a membership program.
This is an awesome way to build a community of satisfied clients and customers around you. Now, this is where you your blog can really be leveraged to gain more members and clients.
In conclusion;
It is clear that in this information overload epoch, knowing more doesn’t necessarily mean you are going to be successful. How you utilize the knowledge you have right now is what leads you to success quicker. So, look around you and check what others have done. If you look hard enough you will find inspiration to create your very own business model that best suits you.
- Do you offer services in your blog? If No, why not?
- Do you think offering services drains your resources, time and money?

Before you go...

I created this blog to chronicle the success and failures of my various online endeavors and to share with you the knowledge I gain along the way...

Boy, you always read me! I have been thinking about offering services on my blog and I already know what I’d love to do. My main problems are:
“You are scared of not being creative enough.” My service requires a lot of creativity!
“Because it drains your resources – time, energy and money.” It does require time too. I think my main problem here is I am unable to organize myself. I wish I could be like Adrienne! She is soo good at that. Maybe I should contact her and get some advice.
But hey, this won’t really stop me. I am bound and determined to offer some services. When I am ready for that, I’ll contact you to get some help. I am sure you don’t mind, do you?:D
Take care and keep reading my thoughts.

Now that is so awesome and very motivating (O:
Later.
Hey Adam,
Interesting topic today. In all honesty, I didn’t have any services I was offering. Then I created a free training site to help others learn how to do some of the things I would hear people complaining about not knowing how to do. Then a few friends of mine convinced me that I should offer some of the services I show people how to do on my training site for those who just don’t have the time. So I did put up a page and promoted it a little but no takers at all. So I said to heck with it. I enjoy helping others but the ones who seem to need my assistance continue to not want to pay anything for it yet won’t take the time to go through what I teach them online for free. Go figure!
But it’s a great idea if you have certain talents and things that you really enjoy doing. I can see where that would work to your advantage. As for me, I think I’ll stay where I am. I’ll be creating a product soon enough so I’ll have enough on my plate in the near future.
Great steps though, really. Very well thought out too!

Alright; creating your own product. Now that sounds like a plan to me.
Yup, you are right! People don’t really want to for the time one invests and yet won’t be motivated enough to figure out by themselves when offered for free. Funny how things work (O:
Really appreciate you sharing your thoughts here Adrienne.
You Rock!
Hi Adam,
Awesome stuff brother. It seems that you have learnt a lot since you start offering your services.
#1 is always the most important point and the one that stops people from getting started.
Thanks for sharing what you have learnt. Keep the information coming. To your success.

Nice post with all information how we can make good blog for readers. You mentioned very well what all things should be included in blog which makes blog very nice and popular.
rocky recently posted..Goa Carnival Date 2011 5th to 8th March
Well, the post is about the basic tips on providing services in a blog. But if you think this helps you make good blog for readers than, there is nothing I can say (O:
Let’s be honest, a blog requires time and effort. We are talking about just updating with posts. Now, we’re talking about actually conducting the blog like a business. sure, that’s a great idea, but those who complain about not habing time etc should not consider this option because it takes time… it really and truly does and one needs to be dedicated. I know someone who has a blog and she has combined it with her services of graphics design so she charges for custom illustrations. She’s worked it in to her personal blog which is her brand and that is still so hectic for her.
But I really think that it is a good option to go with. Business + online = a great start – you can do a lot online.
I don’t know why many bloggers neglect the fact that it is not that hard to make some money providing services in a blog. However, one has to take services to the next level if they want to make significant money. And like you mentioned, it is not easy juggling time between services and writing blog content but it certainly can be done (O:
Thank you for the insights Gabriella.
it all depends on the niche that you are in, some niches such as health niche, you just can’t simple offer any services if you are not a medical doctor
david recently posted..Preventing Heartburn by using these 5 Simple Tips
I absolutely agree David. Providing services may not be possible in some niches. But of course, this depends on what kind of services you are intending to provide.
You know, you have to think outside the box. Even though you probably cannot give an advice like a doctor could, you can certainly start a consulting services for people that want to create a site on health niches. That is a service isn’t it? And I bet you there are thousands of people out there that are interested in creating a site on health niches but do not have a clue on where to start.
You see what I mean. The opportunities are endless. It is just the matter of finding them, taking action and checking out if it works for you. Because you are never going to find out what works if you don’t try(O:
Indeed true! Whatever has been discussed here is right, from the reasons that have been mentioned for staying still with a blog have been right. Offering services on the blog is really a nice option, but if people take the courage to do so.

Maria,
It always takes a lot of courage to start doing things that one hasn’t done before and starting a service in a blog is certainly not an exception.
But you know, the key is stepping out of the comfort zone to build the courage and kick the fear goodbye (O:
Appreciate your comment.
Talk to you soon!
These steps not only are good for a blog but for a web site in general. I have a fairly unusual project working on that requires a blog like interface at the back end and a dynamic web page for the front end. When the idea first hit a model was generated by the needs of the project, and the included plans have been continually adjusted to suit the evolution of the model ever since.
Know that to get anything out one has to put something in. Garbage in – garbage out (blood in – blood out, as in the movie). Work in – more chances to have a good product out.
And if one reads and heeds a lot of what’s on this site, it will increase your chances of having something good extruded from the knowledge and work.
Repeat after me: “Hell yes!!”
Scannerman,
I really appreciate that brother.
Your comments always add value to the discussion in this site, even if you just share your personal experience (O:
I consider myself very privileged to being able to talk to you face to face. There is always something for me to take out from the talks and the discussion we have whether it is through this blog or face to face (O:
You amaze me everyday. Thank you my friend!
Hi Adam,
Great post. Yes it is very necessary to start thinking about building a business.
As for me , I am still not ready to provide any kind services, maybe later but now I am busy building my blog. Call it gestation period for my business. Though I have some idea what I would like to do but it is still shaping up.
Have a great day.

Gestation period ..haha.. I like the way you put it my friend!
Looking forward to see you take your blog to the next step. You know I am your fan (O:
Later brother!
I have consulted a lot about this. Most people look for passive income and forget about the active income that a service can offer them in the meantime.
Brandon recently posted..Increasing the Numbers of Women CEOs in Health IT
Brandon,
Both active and passive form of income have their own benefits and demerits. I know this now since I am involved in both these forms of income. For active income like providing skills and services, one of the most important things is creating the first impression. You are not going to land any clients if you don’t impress the potential client.
Some passive income on the other hand may just require you to find out what really works for you and repeat it again and again. However, I am not saying that all methods of passive income doesn’t require creating the first impression. It all depends on what kind of passive income you are talking about.
Just my 2 cents, you know (O:
I get what you’re saying, most people are afraid they’ll invest time and then fail hard. But how can you succeed if you don’t try?
There are a lot of investors that lose real money every day, and all that’s required from a webmaster is to invest time. I only talk about time because the money part is optional, you can do it without it. Money can speed things up, but they’re not necessary.
Antonia recently posted..The Hypnotic Connection
Exactly Antonia!
There is no success without failures. Therefore, how can one succeed if they are scared of failing (O:
I do believe if one wants to take their online business to the next level, finances is necessary. When I say next level, I also mean making money! You know there is a saying, Money attracts money.
And yes, money is essential to speed up a lot of things eventually saving time which in my opinion is way more important than the money itself (O: What do you think?
Hi Adam,
I’m really not good at this! It’s so easy to forget to ask for business and easy to assume that people will like your post and then think… “Hey, I’d like to work with this person, now where’s their link to contact them…?”
I like the fact you have a “work with me” in your sidebar – although I was surprised it is empty… Plus having a “my services” link in the middle of the post is great. (Can I also point out that it takes you to a 404 page!)
You’ve given me food for thought and a to-do list on my own blog!
Thanks, Dan

Thank you for pointing those out. I just checked them as I am writing this comment. They both work fine for right now but I am having problem just like that in the promote yourself page. Sometimes it takes me to that page and sometimes it doesn’t. I really don’t know the reason as of right now. I am going to talk about it in the headway forum.
Anyway, thanks for pointing them out and right now everything is working fine (O:
Starting offering services at your blog is one of the most effective ways to monetize your blog. So, if you have already promoted a blog properly and developed targeted audience and regular readers then the best way to start making money from blog is to offer product or service. If your blog about business you can offer entrepreneur training course. If your blog about writing it makes sense to offer article writing services.
