I grew up watching wrestling. Even though I don’t have time and interest in watching it nowadays, I used to be a wrestling buff in my teenage years. Hell, when wrestling came on; the whole family dropped everything we were doing and gathered around the TV to see the action.
Even though most of the things that happen in popular wrestling federations like WWF (WWE), WCW, ECW is all preplanned and is purely for entertainment; there is something about wrestling that really intrigued me when I was a kid; particularly due to wrestlers like Steve Austin.
Stone Cold Steve Austin aka The Rattle snake, 3:16, Superstar Steve Austin – is my favorite wrestler of all times. For those of you who don’t know him or are not a wrestling fan; he is a retired professional wrestler and an American film and television actor. Before being a professional wrestler, he also played American football in college for a little while.
His wrestling career skyrocketed in the 2000s as he stood out as one of the most popular superstars in entertainment wrestling. To tell you the truth, one of the reasons why he became so popular is because he was a disrespectful booze drinking SOB, an antihero, who repeatedly defied his boss and other wrestlers.
Okay, I could go on and on about Austin’s career like he has been the wrestling champion 19 times and starred in movies like Damage, The longest yard etc, TV shows like The Bernie Mac Show and so on. But, I want to stop getting carried away and focus on what lessons I learned from him about blogging (O:
So, here we go;
Personality:
Steve Austin is one of my favorites because of his persona; trademark beer bash, popular catchphrases really sets him apart from his competition. He may not have been the baddest or the most skillful wrestler out there but because of his personality, he was able to distinguish himself from the wrestler’s crowd.
Now, how does that help me in blogging? He always reminds me of how important personality is in order to stand out of the crowd in the ever crowded blogosphere. Watching him while growing up instilled the thoughts in me that personality is something that can be evolved and developed regardless of the past situations. I learned how to blog with personality from him and that it is never too late to work more on my blogging personality as well as in my everyday life.
Watching Austin evolve his personality from a regular wrestler into a force to be reckoned with, helped me realize how important it is to work more on my personality as it plays a huge role in my success – both online and offline.
I have seen Austin, before he started doing any of that stone cold stunner or the beer bash; before he became the superstar and then how he turned out to be the badass taught me that personality is the key to not only build up my self-esteem and confidence but also dictate success in my career.
Attitude:
Stone Cold’s attitude as the ruthless SOB is what set him apart from his competition. He frequently reminds me of why I need to blog with an attitude – not just with any attitude but with the attitude to succeed.
Attitude and personality sort of goes hand in hand. The attitude brings out the swagger which is very instrumental in climbing the echelon of success. Stone cold reminds me that everyone, including myself, is born to be a winner. It is just that if we fail to use our unique traits that set us apart from the rest, as soon as possible, it is hard to find success.
Attitude is the very thing that helps us become successful in every endeavor we engage ourselves in…even blogging! Attitude is the foundation that is going to help you crush you competition. You see, the T-shirt portraying 3:16 wouldn’t have been the highest selling merchandise in WWE history if it wasn’t for stone cold’s attitude.
Teamwork and networking:
Even though Austin defied his superiors and feuded with his bosses, early in his career, he strongly believed that he needed to teamwork to form an alliance with other wrestlers in order to survive.
He didn’t become the king of the ring as soon as he started wrestling. He started out as a tag team partner to various other wrestlers as he truly understood that teamwork is going to help elevate him to the higher grounds.
Teamwork is another main lesson I learned from Stone Cold. He made me understand the importance of teaming up with others and networking with the right people to find success.
Never give up no matter how hard the adversity:
Throughout his wrestling and personal career, Austin was marred by injuries to his knee, back, neck and triceps. Even during matches, he bled heavily, was put in submissions but he didn’t give up. Broken neck, temporary paralysis etc. didn’t stop him from giving someone his finishing move – the stone cold stunner. Often times, he even defied his doctors suggestion and wrestled, which I really don’t think was a good idea..haha..
Anyway, never giving up is without any doubt the best lesson I learned from the wrestling legend. So, here is a video to show a tribute to the superstar. Enjoy!
The legacy of Stone cold Steve Austin has bestowed the thoughts in me that no matter how ordinary we think we are, we can polish our traits and behaviors and shine through. We can transform our personality and aim to succeed in any aspects of our lives.
Hell Yeeaahh!…Just like Stone Cold would have said it!

OHHHHH HELLLLL YEEAAAHHHHH!
Adam, I am ready to pull my Austin 3:16 shirt out of the mothballs. Wonderful analogy here.
I was a huge fan of wrestling. I even went to a few ECW matches back in the day. As for Stone Cold he conquered adversity throughout his career. He had a number of serious injuries and had to deal with the crazy politics of WWE and Vinny Mac.
He couldn’t have injected more personality into the Stone Cold persona. Remember when he was the Ringmaster? It was like a night-day difference between Ringmaster and Stone Cold. He put a different energy, a different type of passion into the character and it made him one of the most popular wrestlers of all time.
If you are a blogger take heed of this post guys. Injecting *you* into your blog can make it a successful space. Speak your mind, network and like-minded people will flock to your blog in droves. Everybody loves a genuine person.
Thanks for sharing your insight buddy

Haha Ryan…You know I pulled mine out of the closet this morning just before I posted this post…seriously!
Yes, I do remember his ringmaster days – He sure did have the drive and was considered one of the most skillful wrestlers even back in his early days!
Those who will make it are the ones that don’t hesitate to speak their mind and bestow their geniuses. Absolutely!
Thanks for the awesome insights as always Ryan.
Hi Adam:
All boys including my boys love wrestling so much, I do not even know of this wrestler. But with the action it is creating it feels like a great story to learn from. Adam you are right I have to take his example to make my blog better. That I do need to do for sure. Great post for better blogging.
Thanks
Have an awesome day

I am glad you enjoyed this post and it helped you rethink the ways about blogging.
You know what Fran; I have girls in my family – my mum, my cousin sisters – who are more of a wrestling fan than I am…seriously…Sometimes, I am even surprised by how much they keep up to date on what’s going on in the wrestling world.
You have a wonderful day Fran.
Later!
I also was a huge fan of wrestling in the Stone Cold days before the whole show was about half naked bimbos and such. I really enjoyed reading this article and think you have a very creative mind.

Oh! Thanks Jared for such nice comments.
I guess things have changed now in wrestling…I haven’t been able to keep up to date with the wrestling world for years now. You know sex sells; so shows about half naked bimbos is just their marketing strategy (O:
Hope to see you around brother!
i come form an earlier time of wrestling, tony atlas, dusty rhodes, mr wresting no2, abdula the butcher and andre the giant
one thing i learned was that no matter how many time andre threw the small guys out of the ring they always came back for more!
greg urbano recently posted..Seminole Indians Attack!
I know Andre and Abdulla as I have seen some of their wrestling footage..I can’t remember exactly when…
Heard that Tony and Dusty were quite popular during their days, but really never seen them wrestle.
Thanks for the comments Greg.

Hi Adam,
Nice analogy extracted from wrestling. Never know we have another common interest
. I haven’t been able to watch it now but i used to make television my own whenever wrestling is shown. (Definitely need to endure some complains from my wife)
Steve Austin is definitely one of my favorite as you have pointed it out. His personality easily stands out from a bunch of wrestlers.
Whatever we do, we need to show our real true-self especially in blogging. Content attracts traffic but personality attracts continuous and loyalty readership.
Thanks for sharing the post.

Hey Lye,
Haha…making television your own..that’s hilarious man because I used to do the same. Seems like we do have a lot in common huh!
Talk to you late brother!
Hi Adam
This must be a guy thing lol I so don’t like watching wrestling. Having a nursing background, I would be too worried about the injuries that could be sustained
I know they say it is entertainment but not for this gal. You guys sound like you enjoy it. Don’t like the sound of his neck injuries either! The nurse in me again.
But I get what your message is that you are trying to get across. We do need to have that attitude and uniqueness that makes us stand out. I just want mine to smell of lavenders

Hey Patricia,
Well, like I was telling Fran, I know quite a bit of gals that love wrestling. But hey, since you have a nursing background, I understand.
Yes indeed; more than half the battle in blogging is about the attitude to stand out and succeed.
Later on Pat
Have a wonderful day!
I am perhaps shamed to say that I have never been a fan of wrestling, but what type of guy would I be if I did not at least know something about it.
It seems to me that Austin and most really successful wrestlers are perfect niche marketers. They get into wrestling and find their small corner, create their persona, and work until they are the recoginized experts of that area.
From the Iron Sheik and Hulk Hogan when I was a kid to Austin to the famous ones today (?) it always seems true. They find some act or idea in wrestling that either no one has done before or (at least) is not doing now and they make it their own (by doing everything you said.
So wrestling really is a great analogy, not only for blogging but for marketing in general!

Steve, I am surprised (O: But, hey seems to me that you know heaps about wrestling.
Right on man – Find our own small corner, create our own persona and work until we become the recoginized experts of that area. Those are some great blogging and marketing lessons we can learn from wrestling. It is all about the creativity; find some act or idea that is not tapped – I absolutely agree!
Thanks for stopping by brother.

What Stone Cold Steve Austin Taught Me About Blogging?…
I could go on and on about Austin’s career like he has been the wrestling champion 19 times and starred in movies like Damage, The longest yard etc, TV shows like The Bernie Mac Show and so on. But, I want to stop getting carried away and focus on what…
Hi Adam, I don’t know the first thing about wrestling and would probably rather watch paint dry (lol) but I can definitely appreciate this sweet analogy blog post!
Analogies are the best, and I often enjoy reading them the most.
You did a great job at pointing out how Steve Austin (who? haha) was able distinguish himself in the wrestling industry and how we can all benchmark that same attitude and uniqueness for ourselves in the blogging industry
Great insights, even if I don’t like wrestling haha. Keep up the good work!

Glad you liked it. Later on..
Whats up Adam! Super sweet blog post, Man. To be honest with you I’m totally out of the loop as far as wresting goes. But thanks to you, maybe I can finally think of myself as being on it
Seriously, although my knowledge of pro wrestling personalities is slim I can certainly tell good branding and marketing wisdom when its told and this is it. Attitude and just plain being yourself go a long way in this business. Thanks for reminding us, Adam. Take care!

Attitude to succeed is the first step towards success. YES SIR! No doubt about it!
Hope to see you around brother.
Hey Adam,
I have no idea who this guy is, but I totally GET what you’re saying here. Nice analogy!
“He frequently reminds me of why I need to blog with an attitude – not just with any attitude but with the attitude to succeed.”
Yes! I like that!
Thanks,

Peggy; It is awesome to see you here.
Blogging with an attitude to succeed is in fact the very essence of your blog’s success. You know they say Confidence lift is half the battle won..Which I think is the absolute truth.
See ya around!
I used to watch wrestling when I was younger. It was quite popular in the UK during the 1970′s, nothing like the American version though.
I think your right about personality making the difference. It was all entertainment, not real fighting, but the most entertaining were the ‘baddies’. They were always a good laugh, and got the crowd baying for their blood.
You have to let your personality out. I think I was a bit too ‘formal’ when I first started blogging. But that seemed like hard work, so I just write whatever I like now, that’s a lot easier.

John; Right on, they are purely for entertainment. I think the story/background behind it is what makes it so interesting…
Well, I don’t watch wrestling these days simply because I am keeping myself busy with things that are going to benefit me in my life.
Passion and personality on what you write about is important – audience can tell if you are passionate or not on the topic you are blogging about. Besides this is directly related to your blog’s success.
See you around brother.
Haha. The baddest of all,Stone Cold 3:16,but you relate it to blogging.Nevertheless, great post an worth thinking about

What I am trying to convey here is Stone Cold became successful because of his attitude to succeed, not because he was the most skillful or the strongest wrestler.
Growing up watching Stone Cold kick everybody’s ass, really is impacting on my blogging endeavor right now..Funny huh if you think about it (O:
I also loved watching wwf during my teenage days. But now its little boring. My favorite star during that time was hitman.
You have well connected stone cold with blogging. Great work.
