How & Why I Failed To Follow My Blueprint? Plus, What I Am Doing To Make It Right!

future plans

Today I have a confession to make. I admit I haven’t been able to completely follow the blueprint of my future plans for my online endeavor.

It is not that I miserably failed in doing everything as I had planned. Some of the things, namely drastic increment in blog readers and success with the niche sites, are better than what I ever expected. However some other things didn’t turn out that good, primarily due to the lack of time. Plus, there has also been a slight change in my priorities since I created the first blueprint.

Making a plan is one thing but religiously sticking to it is a totally different story. With that in mind, I wanted to patch up some of the hitches and glitches that exist in the blueprint. I am being very realistic and totally honest here; The main problem with the blueprint is that I am spreading myself too thin.

I couldn’t possibly do everything I wanted to do at the same time as there is that ‘not having enough time’ factor always involved. Besides, by the end of next week I am planning to start providing services in this blog. And with the available time tighter than ever, I need to be more realistic about my goals.

In the blueprint, I did talk about my primary goal of quitting the day job by the end of this year. This is still my top priority, more than ever. That is exactly why I intend to provide services here in this blog. But before I launch the services, there are lots of other things I need to undertake.

My writing approach…

Providing valuable contents to you, my beloved readers, has always been my top priority. One thing you may notice is that I don’t write just to publish contents online. I only publish posts that are genuine and add significant value for your online endeavors. If I think it is not good enough, I don’t hit the publish button. And no, I am not trying to embrace perfectionism here. I make mistakes just like everyone else does. It is just that I am not really into the good is good enough approach.

My posting schedule…

You may notice that my posting schedule has been a little infrequent over the last couple of months. There was a time when I published 3 or more posts every week. But here lately, it has been 1-2 posts mainly due to the personal things and family matters that are very important for my future. If you are a regular reader here you probably know about all the fun I am having with my 7 months old baby ( Yup! Nisha is 7 months already…Funny how time flies by when you are having fun..) And not so fun, struggle with my green card. Talking about the green card, I have my biometrics appointment tomorrow and I will be keeping you up-to-date about that here.

In the past, I never really set any particular days to publish my posts. The infrequency has certainly hurt me especially on the number of comments I get but strangely enough, the blog visitors and subscribers are steadily on the rise. Still, in order to get back on track, I need to be more frequent in publishing posts. I have finally decided to set publishing days as Monday and Friday. So expect new posts every week in those days and I might even surprise you at times with a post in between (O:

Blog commenting schedule…

For a while there, I set aside one day out of week to read and leave comments on the blogs I visit. Well, it was an experiment that really didn’t turn out to be as effective as I thought it was going to be. I was definitely spreading myself too thin in this department.

I am still dedicating same number of hours to leave comments but instead of doing it all day one day; I have decided to break it down into doing it couple of hours at a time throughout the week. Let’s see how is that going to fare out.

Social media strategy…

Here recently, I am seeing a significant gain in traffic from the social media sites that I have been regularly using, namely Twitter and Stumbleupon. Recently I also joined Blokube – the one of a kind social voting site. Just couple of weeks into it I am already seeing an increment in the targeted visitors to my site. So, I am going to be more involved in this.

My plan for now on is to focus on a couple of social media outlets at a time instead of trying to touch each and every one of them. It is a lot better to be a master of one thing than be a jack of multiple ones. Don’t you agree? I have decided to utilize 30-45 minutes during the weekdays, besides Monday, as my social media time.

Miscellaneous things…

It sucks that I have been slacking in guest posting department as well. I said I was going to publish one guest post per week, but it is a lot easier said than done. I am definitely going to try harder in publishing more guest posts just because of the fact that I believe guest posts are an awesome way to build up your brand online. Now, if I can’t write one guest post per week, I will definitely be putting one out at least once every 15 days.

Passive income strategies are going to play a major role in helping me quit my full time job. Hence, I strongly believe that I need to emphasize on this more than ever. The multiple niche sites I have are working out better than I expected and be on a lookout because; pretty soon I will be sharing about them in detail here in my blog.

The ecommerce site has been in a backburner for a while now, primarily due to the lack of time again. Right now I just don’t know how but somehow, I need to find time to work towards it. I am having second thoughts on writing articles for revenue sharing sites due to the recent changes Google made in its search algorithm. However, I am still going to publish some contents regarding my niche sites in article marketing sites to see what kind of impact it is going to produce regarding the rankings for the niche site.

I am back with more dedication towards my online endeavors than ever before. However, I can’t forget that before I can walk and run, I need to learn how to crawl. One step at a time! Slowly but surely!

    Hi Adam:

Wow I am the lucky one to get the first comment here. So,I do find you very sensible for your age, seeing that you reviewed your plan for getting back some traffic that you lost. An awesome strategy. Then with your own observation and trying you have improved it too, little bit. Soon your blog will get the lost traffic back and some more, as this time you have learned from your oversight.

    Sometimes I feel the same.

Make it great for yourself sooner or later.

Well, Thank you very much. Definitely have to review the plan/blueprint time and time again to see if I am working towards my goals; ya know what I mean!

There are lots of things to be taken care of and plenty of lessons to be learned along the way (O:

    You take care Fran.

    Hi Adam,

Even though you can’t stick to your plan but it’s totally fine to make changes for your online endeavors. I am sure you will find a way through to blend with your offline tasks and family commitments.

As what we have always been reminded, patience is the key. You have that and i am sure you will be on the way up once you have everything in plan. All the best brother.

      Hey Lye,

It is not that I didn’t totally stick to my plan. The thing was I was spreading myself too thin on the things that matter the most. I need to really push it to the limit – burn without being burnt – or else I’d not be able to reach my goals quickly.

On the other hand, you are absolutely right Lye, I need to be a little more patient as well.

Thank you for your support brother!

Somehow things like ‘Planning’ is something I have a hate/love relationship with. Because on the one hand Planning can give – Focus -, especially when a Planning is Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and with a Time Path. (better known as ‘SMART’) It will also create clarity for the readers.

Only I can also find it demotivating, or it can feel like ‘Painting myself Stuck’. That’s why I also experiment using a ‘Project-list’ instead of a ‘Todo-list’ not prioritising by – Time – but by ‘Size’. That way making clear destinctions in what I think is really – Important – instead of what just happens to be Urgent at a certain time.

Also for example I don’t work with a Business Plan, I work with an – unfortunately still somewhat vague – Business Model without a specific commenting schedule. The down side of it is that I don’t have a fixed posting schedule, I do think that the positive side of it is that I write when I am Motivated and Inspired, and it can give me time to reply to Commenters, because Enjoying the Process has ‘Size’ because it’s – Important – to me, hopefully it eventually can also result in creating content that’s important to you as a reader.

    I do think that atleast
    it can make my Posts

    - Exclusive :)

Also – talking about being motivated or demotivated – my posting frequenty will also probably increase depending on the amount of
    Readers Feedback.

So now in my New Model I aim to focus more on – as you already do – providing actual valuable content.

For example recently I did some soul searching asking myself how I could really, really…, help (beginning) Online Entrepreneurs, and realised that I use a Whiteboard as a Handy tool for Focussing on the things I think are Important, and discovered that – looking at the Stats – those posts immidiately became Most Popular!

So possibly I am getting on the right track now.
In my most recent post I now wrote about how I use a – Success Journal – because that also might something that really can help other Online Entrepreneurs.

    All the Best,
To your Happy – Home Business – Inspiration,

    Hey Van,

You are spot on my friend. SMART goal setting is definitely a great way to clarify things in our head as well as for the audience.

Ya know, I used to hate making any plans until recently when I found out that I was doing a hell of a lot better when I actually have a plan and stick to it. And of course, sticking to it is always the hardest part (O:

I am definitely going to check out your social journal post after this comment.

    Appreciate the insights man.

    Adam,

I feel ya. I do this full time and I often feel the time crunch. I have been working on my other sites and other efforts a lot and frankly SSS has suffered a little bit.

I think I am still putting out good articles when I post but, like you, things I told myself i would do more of, like guest posting have fallen to the wayside.

I guess the important thing is prioritization. The important things are getting done (in my case I make most of my money on my other sites…I need to pay attention to those.

With all the things that -can- be done it is unlikely you ever get to everything, time management is just about getting the most done that -can- be done.

It seems to me your two most important things were successful – increasing readers and working your niche sites.

That is the important thing…so congratulations and keep at it bro!

Yes Steve, it has been a long and hard grind but I feel like I have come a long way in increasing the readers in my blog. Same goes for the success in my niche site. I know I have long ways to go, but you know the little things I achieve, piece by piece, is what really keeps me going even when at times it gets real hard. Besides all that, following determined bloggers and entrepreneurs like you really motivates me to go at it day in and day out. I may not have thanked you personally for it before..but anyway THANK YOU for being such a great inspiration brother. I really really appreciate it!

    Hey Adam,

Wow, I also do this full time and there still aren’t enough hours in the day. I am also wearing myself thin in certain areas which is why I’m reevaluating what I’m doing and what changes need to be made. It’s difficult to get everything done within the time frame you set for yourself because things happen.

I enjoyed reading your honest approach to how things have been going for you and how you are handling them. I know you will accomplish everything you’ve set out to do all while enjoying that new bundle of joy! Congrats Dad!!!

Hang in there Adam, everything will work itself out!

Hey Adam, I hope all went well at the interview. Sticking to a strict blogging schedule can be pretty hard, especially since most writers can’t snap their fingers and produce great quality articles. I know i can’t.
Slowly but surely indeed, blogging, like any other serious job, is first and foremost, a test of faith.

You haven’t failed. Plans are like what Lenin said about rules, they are like pie crust, made to be broken. In the modern age everything is in flux. A good plan is adaptable, constantly changing, able to be amended at any time. One has to have many plans to make his model work.
    Thumbs up to you, mon.

Well, at least you had great plans for your future ahead when it comes to your online work. In my case, yes, I do have my plans or blueprint too. But, for now, I’m having a rough time following it for some uncertain reasons. Maybe, soon, I will be able to overcome this. Great thoughts here, it inspired me. Thanks a lot!

I think we must all have had the experience of making a plan only to find that we don’t stick to (all of) it.

One of the best things I learned about planning and goal setting (from the NLP field) was to think of plans/goals as directions, not destinations and just set off along them as you would set off on a journey, that is, with an end in mind, but knowing full well that you might not get there.

Keeping an eye on the reasons you have set your plans always brings you back to the right direction, even though that might not be the same one you started out on :)

Just one of the many things about goal setting that I managed to cram into my first online endeavour; an ebook about motivation and exercise.

Thanks for your honesty, it can be hard to admit distractions, errors and failures, but you make yourself and us stronger for it.

    Cheers
